After skiing all day, I slept incredibly well here. The mattresses are a little hard, so that might be tough if you’re a very light sleeper, but the pillows and duvet were comfy. The eight-person dorm has capsule-style beds, which muffled the sounds of people snoring or moving around. The rooms were very clean and easy to use, with lockers and keys included in the price. I felt really safe as a woman, even in a mixed dorm with men. People were easygoing, and the bathrooms had a code and lock. The staff were lovely too. Treat them with respect and they’ll do the same for you. Ota was especially friendly and helpful. I really appreciated the free daily shuttles to and from the ski resort. There was a lot included in the price: shower and face towels, a travel toothbrush and toothpaste, earbuds, and a coat hanger in each capsule. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap were in the shower, and there were hairdryers, razors, combs, and more. Everything was well stocked, clean, and smelled nice, so it felt like great value. The restaurant food was a bit overpriced, though you could get unlimited fresh rice, soup, and salad for a small extra price, which was great for filling up. There’s also a Lawson about a four-minute walk away for food on the go. This was honestly my best hostel experience ever. I’d definitely give it a try if you’re going to Rusutsu.

The dry room was a real highlight, spacious and warm, with plenty of room to hang clothes and ski gear. Rusutsu Grand Cabin was a pleasant surprise for me, since I hadn’t stayed in a hostel for a long time and wasn’t sure what to expect. Everything was clean and well maintained, from the rooms to the shared amenities. The place felt professionally run, and the staff were friendly and efficient. The shuttle to the resort was especially handy if you don’t have a car. There’s an excellent restaurant on site, and a Lawson just a two-minute walk away for anything else you need.

We stayed for three nights in February, and my son, who’s 16, and I were both very happy with it. We had two beds in the dorm, and everything was very clean. The community kitchen was a great help for us as low-budget skiers. Our neighbors were respectful people who were passionate about winter sports, and getting to Rusutsu was easy.

Our stay was very good, and the staff at Rusutsu Grand Cabin were helpful and attentive. When we arrived from the airport by bus, we had trouble getting from the main resort to the accommodation. I emailed the Grand Cabin, and they got back to us quickly and arranged a transfer. Great service, and they were nice people to deal with.

The wooden floors carry every footstep through the building, so it was very noisy even in the private rooms. Smoke from the restaurant also gets into the room. Opening the windows makes the noise twice as bad. It costs half as much as the rusutsu ski in/out hotels, but knowing what it was like, I would have paid extra to stay there.
