The village is quiet, and there are a few restaurants about a 15-minute drive away. Staff were friendly, and the front desk spoke enough English to help us, with an English information pamphlet too. The hotel feels old-fashioned and a little rustic, but its onsen, including the sauna, was better than some pricier places. We couldn't choose a smoking or non-smoking room, though, and ours had a strong smell. There was also no way to boil water in the room; hot water was only available in teapots from the restaurant.

The rooms are cramped and dated, but the hot springs and dining area more than make up for that. I ordered à la carte this time instead of having dinner, and everything was delicious. The spring water comes straight from the source, and the baths are fantastic. It's lovely to eat, have a drink, and head to bed without needing to go anywhere. I do hope they'll make it possible to use the hot springs in the morning too.

The building and facilities are showing their age, but the staff were lively and welcoming, and I had a comfortable stay on the one-night, two-meal plan. The hot spring area was great, with lots of local visitors. My room's toilet didn't have a washlet, which was a bit troublesome for me since I tend to get stomachaches.
