Glamping Himeshara - Vacation STAY 01948v

There were mushrooms growing behind the bedroom, which was about the only positive. The manager was asleep when we arrived, so I couldn't check in at first. It was cold without air conditioning, the room smelled bad, and the futon had a sweaty odor even in winter. The equipment was filthy, a real problem if you're germ-conscious. The manager also urinated standing up in front of me with the door open. If you want to stay in a house used by an elderly man, this might suit you. The bathroom was dirty, so the nearby hot springs may be a better choice for a soak. I wouldn't recommend it for glamping.

I expected more after seeing the website photos. The manager didn't seem like a bad person, but the stay just wasn't for me. It was hot with no air conditioning, and insects could get in through the many windows without screens. After I left my luggage, I came back to find the door unlocked and the lights on. There were also things left by previous guests, including toothpaste and bath towels, plus a partly used teapot, water still in the kettle, and trash.

The only things I liked were that pets are allowed and that the place is surrounded by Kirishima's natural scenery. Beyond those, I was really disappointed and couldn't enjoy the stay. It felt like there was no sense of cleanliness at all: the room was quite dirty and smelled unpleasant, and tidying was poor. An outer garment that seemed to belong to the manager was left in the living room, and there was a partly used toothbrush. The fridge also had what looked like yakiniku sauce, but it had already been used. I hope they improve things.

The room was warm even though the nights were chilly, and the wooden interior gave the inn a lovely, cozy feel. It was peaceful, surrounded by nature, and we got to relax. There was a barbecue grill on the room's balcony, with sauce in the fridge. We bought ingredients at a nearby farmers market and enjoyed some Miyazaki beef. We didn't use them, but the room also had a rice cooker, microwave, toaster, plastic wrap, coffee maker, kettle, and refrigerator.
