The only thing I’d criticize is that the onsen water runs too hot. The setting is beautiful, and you can sleep to the sound of the river. If tatami doesn’t suit you, there are a couple of wood-floored rooms with western beds. It’s a 15 minute drive to the airport and 40 minutes to the park trails. Highly recommended! It feels like a homestay, with lovely hosts, delicious meals, and two calico cats full of personality. The onsen feel authentic, with water that really seems healing. You can switch between the sulfur and bicarbonate springs, and the larger onsen has a cold plunge.
