We’re hiking the Nakasendo Way and only wish we’d had longer to spend at this magnificent place.

The hot springs were fantastic after a long hike, and we had a wonderful stay at this lovely family-run inn. My family really enjoyed the delicious meals, too. Thank you for such warm hospitality!
The innkeeper’s mother makes the soba by hand, and the food was plentiful and amazing, with lots of local vegetables. Everyone was friendly and spoke really good English when needed. The windows are double-glazed, so the temperature stays comfortable. The rooms are gorgeous, and so is the view. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say. Can I just stay here forever? 😳
This was my ninth Ryokan in a row as we traveled along the Nakasendo trail, and it was my favorite. Kaida-Kogen is a sleepy, lovely spot, and the Inn feels new while still holding onto traditional Ryokan charm and design. The onsen was lovely and the hospitality was fantastic. The family has been in the area for generations, since the owner's great great grandmother owned a famous Kaida horse ranch. The food was delicious, especially the horse sashimi, trout eggs, and beef cooked in white miso. Highly recommended!
It’s a very peaceful spot, with views toward Otaki on a clear day. The food was good, and the onsen made the trip worthwhile. You’ll need to get here by car or bus.
