The room was comfortable, and I enjoyed the views from the lovely onsen and outdoor footbath. Staff were friendly, though the local team speak limited English. A Sri Lankan staff member was able to translate Japanese into English for me. They also accommodated my dietary needs, providing vegetarian choices at both dinner and breakfast after I noted this in my online booking.

The meals were tasty and generous, and the staff were kind and attentive. The hotel is older, but it’s clean and well looked after. The baths are spacious, especially the one by the elevator, and the men’s and women’s rooms switch at midnight. The water is greenish and salty, with a faint iron smell. I understood most of it to be natural spring water, though I couldn’t make sense of the notices about recirculation for filtering sediment.

Be sure to take the short walk to the nearby Onsen Shrine and adjoining temple. The public bath was a highlight, and the service was excellent, with plenty of great food. This Onsen hotel isn’t a fancy place, but I had a terrific stay.
