I arrived five hours before check-in, and nobody was around, but the instructions were clear, so I could leave my luggage in the right spot. Later I met the manager Kay, who was extremely helpful. She speaks clear English and explained everything efficiently. I later learned she'd worked at another hotel and had good training. I liked the location, and the nearby train tracks didn't bother me at all. My roommates were friendly, and I slept well. I'd come back.

The shared bathrooms were clean and tidy, and our double room was comfortable. The common area had a calm, friendly feel. Sakura welcomed us warmly and helped us rent bikes to explore. We had a lovely stay at Guesthouse Maya and only wish we'd had more time. Great atmosphere all around, would definitely recommend.

I started my Japan travels at Guest House MAYA and felt lucky to land there. Everyone was warm, friendly, and clearly cared about the guesthouse and its guests. I realized at check-in that I'd left my backpack on the bus into town. Yoppi immediately started calling bus companies and carefully noting things down, even though they'd just closed for the day. The next morning, Emi picked up where she left off and called the remaining companies. She found it! Yoppi and Emi were fantastic, and their teamwork showed how well the place is run. Yoppi also gave me great tips for food and things to do. I followed one of her recommendations and hiked partway up Mount Maya, which was especially lovely in the fall colors, then took the gondola to the peak. The guesthouse can help arrange passes for the gondola and tram, which made it all very convenient. The place feels social and welcoming, but there's room for personal space too. It's easy to talk with other guests, or just have quiet time in the common areas. I also noticed how connected the owners are to the local community. After I ate and had drinks at a nearby izakaya, its owner kindly walked me back. He said the guesthouse owner was a friend and he'd hoped to greet them when he brought me back, but they weren't there then. It was a small gesture that showed how much people here care for one another and their guests. I hope future guests have a lovely stay and remember this guesthouse is part of a close-knit community with its own culture. Respect that, and it'll be returned. The photos are from places people recommended to me :)

The rooftop terrace was a favorite, with lovely views and trains passing by while I relaxed. I spent two weeks at this charming guesthouse and was impressed throughout. The hosts and staff were warm, helpful, and friendly, and you can feel how much care and passion they put into the place. My room was bright and spacious, with everything I needed, and the whole accommodation, including the shared bathroom, was impeccably clean. I also really enjoyed the food tour they organized, a memorable way to try local cuisine. The location has excellent connections nearby, so trains make it easy to get around. The team shared loads of good restaurant and attraction tips too. The vibe was relaxed and welcoming. It didn't feel like an anonymous hotel, more like visiting friends. Thanks for an unforgettable stay. I'll definitely be back and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

For me, this is the best guesthouse in Japan. The staff are wonderful, it's clean and cozy, and the place feels like home. I'll stay here whenever I'm in Kobe. The best!
