Yamaya

I came across this little gem by accident. A+++.

That relaxed, wood-warm feel made this a place where we could unwind and sleep well. There were fishermen out on the ocean right in front, and the whole town felt laid-back. We stayed as a family in early March. It was chilly, so the heated carpet and air conditioning were just right. From our second-floor room, right in front of the triangular roof, we could see Mt. Fuji beautifully, both from the room and the dining area. The location was great! 😆 The room had a TV, toothbrush, face towel, and sink. Bath towels were for sale. The hair dryer, toilet, and magazines were outside the room, and the second-floor toilet we used was clean and state-of-the-art. Dinner was upstairs and breakfast downstairs. Both meals had delicious fish, with portions that felt just right. We especially liked the flounder, squid tempura, and shirishiri mandarin oranges at dinner, and the raw egg at breakfast. Jutaro 100% mandarin orange juice was sweet and tasty, definitely recommend it! 😋 The non-alcoholic sparkling wine and bottled orange juice were tasty too, though I found them bitter. We enjoyed laying out our futons ourselves so we didn’t have to move the table. There’s an indoor bath on the second floor and a panoramic bath on the first. 😊 Thanks!

I’d seen Iio from the comedy duo Zun on TV and had wanted to try Yamaya for ages, so I finally went for the first time. It was lunchtime on the middle day of a three-day weekend, and more than ten groups were already waiting. I had time, so I stuck it out for two hours before getting in. The sea bream bowl was packed with sashimi, and the egg tasted rich and carefully chosen. The fried horse mackerel was delicious too. I also ordered Iio’s sea bream bowl, namero bowl, and fried salted rockfish. I was satisfied despite the wait, but I’m not ready to queue that long again. 😭😋

We got a second-floor seat with a great view, and the inside was clean, so we felt comfortable dining there. From the outside, I might not have thought to bring my wife if I hadn’t looked it up first. The landlady and chef were considerate, and I enjoyed the meal. Thanks very much. We went for Saturday lunch around 12:30 and filled in the waiting list before going in. We were fifth in line and waited 50 minutes. The sea bream bowl with mandarin orange rice and the namero, simmered red snapper, were sold out, so we ordered the simmered golden eye snapper set meal. The signature sea bream bowl may not be to everyone’s taste. We found its sauce a bit too salty and didn’t like it. But we paid extra to swap the white rice for mandarin orange rice, and I really liked its gentle citrus aroma with the sea bream. The golden eye snapper meal was surprisingly good for the price, especially the broth, and my wife enjoyed it too. The food takes time to come, so expect to wait both for a table and after ordering. Come with plenty of time. The simmered golden-eyed snapper was delicious.
