Hostel Anchorage

A clean, quiet hostel near shops and train stations. My room did get pretty warm, though.

I stayed at Hostel Anchorage while recovering from a stomach bug I picked up somewhere during my three-stop flight. Thankfully it wasn't contagious, but I felt awful when I arrived, and Kazu-san's patience, kindness, and understanding meant a lot while I was sick and far from home. He gave me a clean, quiet, comfortable place to rest. After I felt better, I noticed how spotless the hostel was. It seemed like he was always cleaning, and the location beside a wonderful shopping center made it easy to explore as my strength came back. Hostel Anchorage is a real gem. If you're spending any time in Kobe, I can't recommend it enough. I'd first written only that the room was small but clean and the staff helpful, and said I'd stay again. I was in a rush and meant to add more, then forgot, which was embarrassing because this place deserved more than that one sentence.

The rooms are really clean, and I've stayed in few hostels that were as good as this one. For what you pay, you get way more than expected. There are two train stations nearby, a shopping area, loads of food options, and even a very nice restaurant right outside the door. The instructions were clear, and knowing a little Japanese helped, like it does across Japan. The staff were very helpful. I'll definitely come back.

Friendly staff and clean showers and bathrooms. The beds were comfortable, with enough room inside and plenty of floor space for bags and unpacking. Great value compared with other places nearby.
