Hotel Century21 Hiroshima

The main plus is the location, close to the station, Peace Park, and shopping. Our room wasn’t very clean, and it felt quite dated. The air conditioning seemed questionable, so I wouldn’t want to stay here in summer. I’d skip the on-site food too. The food hall in the mall across the way is nicer and cheaper.

Breakfast was good and the service was what you’d expect. The location is handy, about a five-minute walk from Hiroshima station and 20 minutes on foot from the peace memorial park, with public transport nearby too. But we’re giving it only 2/5 because cleanliness throughout the hotel was poor. Despite the “21st century” name, it feels like it peaked back in the 20th century and badly needs a facelift. It isn’t antique, but our room gave the impression that everything had been worn out for far too long. The carpet had large dirty stains, and the price felt too high for that.

We paid about $150 for a single night, which felt completely overpriced. It may have been because there was a baseball game that night, something we only learned when we arrived. The Japanese fans are passionate! The property itself is tired and needs updating. Dusty, stained carpets in both the hall and room, though at least the bathroom was clean.

The hotel was nice and clean, and the bed was comfortable. But the mini fridge in my room started buzzing loudly at 2am, then again at 3am. I had to get up and unplug it to sleep properly. There was no wifi, only an Ethernet port, which many computers don’t even have anymore. I’d stay again, but I’d bring my own wifi point or be prepared to go without it for a night.
