I spent four nights at Bonito guest house for the Kochi Ryoma marathon. It's close to the starting line, right downtown, and within walking distance of many landmarks, so it was great value. The shared room had comfortable, roomy beds with heaters for cold weather, and earplugs were available in case of noise. The kitchen common area felt relaxed and homey, and it was fun meeting other travelers and runners and sharing the atmosphere. The owner looks after the rooms and all the little details, and really went out of his way to make me comfortable. When I arrived, I realized I'd left a bag on the bus. He contacted the bus company and kept trying until I got it back the next day.

The staff member was so kind and gave me lots of suggestions for things to see and do in Kochi. The location was great too, with all the main sights easy to reach on foot. The beds were super comfortable, and I'd never had such nice hostel pillows before. They even give you two! It's a Japanese house, so you can hear a lot from outside, but with the curtains drawn it wasn't too bad. Earplugs are available if you need them, and there are plenty of modern appliances.

I stayed in the solo room, which was well equipped for the price. The bathroom was shared but spotless, and the downstairs facilities were modern and well maintained. The staff were incredibly helpful and spoke both English and Japanese perfectly, even though my Japanese is pretty rough. The guest house is tucked down a side street just off the main shopping area. The center of Kochi's shopping street, plus loads of restaurants and bars, is a minute or two away. Kochi castle and Kochi station are also within a short walk, and Aeon is reachable if you're up for a longer walk. I'd happily stay here again for a quick weekend. For more than a few days, I'd probably choose a private hotel room, just because I prefer the privacy. But if shared facilities work for you, this is a hard place to beat for an affordable stay near town, especially if you'd like to meet other travelers.

What made the stay especially good was the manager's thoughtful help. I got sick while I was there and needed a doctor. He found me one who spoke English, and I was able to rest at the hostel for a few days. Being away from home and unwell, I felt really welcome and comfortable. Thank you. 🙏 The location is great, beside hirome and Sunday markets, with lovely restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Lawson is a minute away, and the train station is a short walk. The kitchen is well equipped, and I enjoyed making food with vegetables and tofu from the local supermarket. It has a lovely, relaxed feel, with music playing. The showers were great. I appreciated the high-quality hair dryers and the skin care products, especially since I was traveling light. The rooms are comfortable and well ventilated, everything smelled clean and fresh, and the lockers fit a large bag.

Yuki, who was managing the hostel during my stay, was kind, sweet, and really helpful. Tourist Information wouldn't book a temple stay for me, but Yuki did. The staff were excellent, and the place had good wifi. The hostel is centrally located between Kochi Station and the tram lines. Lots of restaurants are nearby, and Lawson is just around the corner. My dorm was clean, with plenty of hangers and a lockable luggage storage area just outside. The kitchen was comfortable, with a couple of tables and a counter. It's basic, but has what one person needs to make a meal. Towels were provided, and the hair dryer was powerful. Thank you!
