Katsuo Guest House

Restaurants and both the bus and train stations are within walking distance, and the facilities were very clean. Our room was the cutest and most beautiful Japanese-style room we’ve had so far on our trip through Japan. The guesthouse was decorated with so much care. Thank you for being so hospitable!

The location was perfect, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were cheerful and helpful. My friend and I had a really enjoyable time here. We’d stay again, 10/10!

The staff were really nice, especially Ayumi. Most guests are Japanese, and I had fun spending time with them in the common room and having a beer at the end of the day. It’s a relaxed capsule hotel and hostel, with standard, comfortable beds and quiet nights since noise isn’t allowed after midnight. It’s walkable to Kochi station, but Hirome and Kochi castle are farther away, so the bus takes 20-30 minutes. Parking spots are limited, so book early if you’re driving or you’ll need to find paid parking. Most of the staff don’t speak much English, so you may need to use Japanese.

For a budget stay with a warm, homey feel, this guesthouse was just right. It was easy to get to know the hosts and other travelers, and we loved staying here. The bunks are cozy and private, thoughtfully laid out with good lighting and enough room for your things. We also found the shared sitting room and kitchen comfortable, especially the kotatsu. If you’re new to Japan and it’s cold out, that’s an experience to try. Many thanks to our kind host Maki and her family. We’d book again in a heartbeat.
