After some great stays at Hotel Trusty Odiaba, I booked four nights at Hotel Trusty Abeno for my time in Osaka. I’ve never been one to leave a bad review, but this was enough. There was feces in the toilet, the bathroom smelled of black mold, and when I asked for another pillow, they refused. Is an extra pillow really too much to ask? That was the last straw for me. Yikes.

Having the shower over the bathtub meant the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all at the opposite end, and there was no anti-slip mat, so you have to be extra careful. The bathroom door also swings outward and was quite inconvenient. The ceiling light aimed toward the head of the bed made things uncomfortable too.

It was clean, pleasant, and the staff were really friendly, but this place felt a little lacking beside the other hotels on our holiday. Maybe it suits business travelers better. The bathroom looked dated, and the outlets for using the kettle were in odd spots. It’s a nice little place, just the most old-fashioned stop of our trip. The location was handy, with metro and JR lines easy to reach.

The location was good, but I definitely wouldn’t stay here again. The breakfast buffet was acceptable, just not delicious, and the staff were nice, though most barely spoke English. We were mistakenly put in a smoking room, which was unbearable. Opening the window helped, but then we got cold air and traffic noise. The rooms are very small and looked worn and not especially clean, like an old small-town Holiday Inn. The three other couples with us felt the same. This isn’t a four-star hotel.

For a business hotel, the rooms are fairly spacious and work well for a longer stay. The entrance is on the third floor of a tower by the station, which connects directly to Tennoji Station. To get to the elevator you have to pass through the front desk. Service is not as bad as you might expect for a hotel in this class, though it’s clear it isn’t as good as it used to be.
