Ryokan Nanakamado

The staff made us feel like their own children or grandchildren, and even helped us sort out transportation on departure day. We don’t speak even basic Japanese, but they were kind and proactive, and also worried about the heavy snowfall. We were the only young guests, as far as we could tell. Thank you so much, I hope you see this. I’d love to return if I get the chance, and hope you stay healthy until then. It became a wonderful memory. We weren’t renting a car and weren’t sure how to get there, but after we emailed, they sent detailed directions and were incredibly kind even before we arrived. The location took a lot of time to reach. The room was clean and cozy, and the indoor bath was perfect. I still remember the light snow falling beyond the window. The meal was excellent too, with authentic Japanese home cooking. It was a truly lovely place, and I recommend visiting if you have the time.

I was excited for the stay and had bought lots of Fukuoka souvenirs. I use e-cigarettes in the car and put the cigarette butts in a garbage bag, which I brought to the inn so I could add the souvenir trash. They told me not to smoke while eating, since smoking is prohibited inside the inn, and that took away from enjoying the meal. I’d brought the used bag along out of consideration, because I thought it would be rude to leave them more trash, but I felt grossed out and upset thinking someone had looked inside it. The food was average and the bath was small. The three nearby inns in the same Sujiyu area have better service, food, and baths. I won’t go back.

The semi-open-air bath in our room was just the right temperature, so we could soak for a long time. The food was delicious, and all the staff were friendly, which made the stay really enjoyable. A staff member told us about a waterfall shower five minutes away on foot and gave us a coin, so it was free. There were thick and thin waterfall showers. The lockers cost 100 yen and the coin isn’t returned, so you can just take a towel and skip the lockers.
