Henna Hotel Komatsu Ekimae

The rooms are surprisingly roomy for budget accommodation in Japan, and the beds were comfortable enough that I fell asleep right away, even though hotel beds usually give me trouble. I found this odd-looking hotel quite nice. The only really strange part was the CG samurai and dinosaur at check-in. It's right by the Shinkansen station, so getting there is easy. The lobby has comics to read, or just look through if you don't read Japanese, plus a vending machine with an interesting mix of snacks. I didn't try breakfast, but it looked like they serve traditional Japanese sets with grilled fish. I had a very pleasant, relaxing stay.

At 6 AM, the front desk called to say someone in the next room had complained about noise. It wasn't me, but the call woke me up.

For the price and location, this is a good hotel. Everything was neat and tidy, though the room wasn't fully soundproof and noise sometimes disturbed my sleep. The bathroom had a slight mold smell, and one of the room's charging cable terminals wouldn't charge. Some of the tech features work well, like being able to check washing machine use from the room, but having an unattended reception was a bit bothersome.

I stayed one night two weeks ago, in August 2022. The location and self check-in were convenient for foreign visitors, and I liked the room. There were lots of comics in the lobby, but unfortunately I can't read Japanese. Breakfast the next morning wasn't self-serve, ha ha. Someone brought me a Japanese-style set. You can also get a cup of coffee or an onsen egg yourself.
