Kotohira Park Hotel

The hotel has plenty of amenities, and they’re making an effort to provide information in English. I think some of the comments about the language are a bit much. The main drawback is that it’s a walk from the station.

The hotel has potential, and the recent renovation gives it a modern look that younger guests may like. For the price, the amenities were decent and the value was good. But my one-night stay at Kotohira Park Hotel was marred by the staff’s behavior during check-in. Three women at reception were talking among themselves and giggling about “gaijin” (foreigners) in a way that made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. It felt unwelcoming and completely inappropriate. Until the staff receive proper training in respect and professionalism, I wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially if you’re a foreigner.

I stayed for about a week on a work trip sometime in October last year. The staff were courteous, very helpful, and took care of my requests. My room was clean and comfortable, though a bit small, about average for a hotel in the same price range. The usual hotel amenities were provided. The TV information showing the status of the coin-operated laundry was especially handy. The location also suited me as someone who enjoys long walks. Konpira shrine is within walking distance, the pedestrian route felt fairly safe, and there are several shops nearby. Lawson is next door and Marunaka, a local grocery centre, is opposite. I only eat halal food, so there weren’t many options around. The breakfast buffet did have several vegetarian or non-meat dishes I could eat. I hope they’ll consider adding better choices for guests with specific dietary needs.

The location is handy for both the supermarket and Lawson, and there’s an easy-to-reach communal kitchen on the second floor. The onsen was good, staff were friendly, and laundry was good too. They also offer free coffee and an okay breakfast.
