We were hiking the Kumano Kodo and this place made our stay feel just right. The host was thoughtful and helpful, and cooked us really good meals at home. I'd happily recommend it to anyone coming through the area.

The room itself was basic and a bit awkward to use. The ceiling lights hung so low I kept bumping my head, and the bathroom was tiny and dated. Check-in was meant to happen at the cafe nearby, but when I got there it was shut and the host wasn't around. An older woman who had closed the cafe helped me get in touch with her. When the host eventually arrived, she was rude and verbally attacked me over a small misunderstanding. I was exhausted after a full day hiking, so that was especially unpleasant. The following morning, she berated me in front of the other guests because I was a few minutes late for breakfast.

We got to enjoy Shino's cooking, hospitality, and sense of humor for two days, since we'd spent the night before at her other guest house, Guest House Kumanoyasai, near Takahara. This house is right on the Kumano Kodo route, and the food she made was delicious. I'd recommend staying at both places. Thanks again, Shino!

Dinner came as a bento box, which we paid extra for, and we ate it out on the terrace with the scenery around us. Breakfast was great too. The place felt cozy and welcoming on the Kumano Kodo trail, and it was easy to talk with the host in English.

Shino made us delicious meals and was a lovely host. The place was clean and comfortable, with a grocery store and restaurant just a short walk away in Chikatsuyu.
