We come back every summer, my husband and I. The inn is simple, so we use it as a base for enjoying nature and activities nearby rather than just staying in. Shirakome Pond and its famous moss forest are only a short drive away, although getting here from the city center can be a bit difficult. Even so, it's worth the trip. The food is a big reason we return. The onion soup at dinner is made fresh every morning, and having that lovely taste each year makes me happy. Breakfast's roast beef sandwich is well seasoned and delicious too, with local ingredients and shop-bought bread also on offer. The decor and interior are stylish, and the owner is gentle and kind. It's cool here, and even though daytime temperatures seem higher than usual with the recent rise in temperatures, the air is clear and doesn't feel oppressive. There's a hot spring and outdoor sauna within walking distance, and the walk back after a bath feels even cooler. I haven't seen it myself yet, but apparently on clear nights you can see a starry sky.

I'd only read reviews before, but this stay made me want to write one too. It was my first time in Nagano Prefecture since my high school field trip. I booked here because people said the food was delicious, and that turned out to be a great choice! (^O^) The food lived up to what I'd read, but I especially liked the atmospheric rooms, the restaurant interior, and the view from the hotel. The owner was so considerate and kind that it made me feel like going back to my countryside hometown, lol. The weather unfortunately kept us from taking a stargazing walk. I'd love to try again!!! Thank you so much.

I don't usually write reviews, but I really want to come back here, so I wanted to leave one. The building is beautiful, the food is delicious, and the service is kind and comfortable. We ate in a lovely dining room and had an elegant time there at both breakfast and dinner. Before we arrived, I was stung by a horsefly and was in pain. They offered to use a suction device and applied medicine, which helped a lot. I was worried it might have been a bee, but their local knowledge and handling of it put me at ease.

July 2024. The lodge sits at an altitude of 1,450 meters and has no air conditioning, but even in midsummer the breeze coming through the screen doors keeps things cool. Every room is upstairs on the second floor, with its own bathroom and toilet. The rooms are simply furnished, as you'd expect at a pension. The tap water is very cold even in summer, though switching to hot water quickly makes it easy to use. There's also a bidet toilet in the shared bathroom downstairs on the first floor. The owner handled check-in and check-out, and served the table by himself. He has an impressive deep voice. As other reviews say, the food was delicious and high quality. The atmosphere of the lodge feels aimed at adults. Pajamas cost extra, as they do at pensions. Parking is a little far away, though I was able to park my motorcycle right in front.

We keep coming back here as our regular hotel. The building is older and a little short on facilities, without the conveniences you'd get at a city hotel. But it offers so much you don't find in the city: crisp air, beautiful nature, a sky full of stars, warm hospitality, and delicious food, especially the onion gratin soup. It feels like staying at a close friend's house. We hope we can keep coming as long as we're healthy enough.
