There weren’t enough choices at breakfast, and the key to the locker room in the public bath was missing.

An older hotel, but it was clean.

The location was a relief after I drank, fell asleep on the train, and woke up feeling hopeless at the last stop, Kagohara Station. The hotel was close to the station, so I could stay there instead of waiting for the first train in a badly situated area. The next morning, station staff were cleaning vomit scattered through the station building, and I was glad not to have had to put up with that. Breakfast was delicious, and the large public bath was great. The room toilet was awkward to use: the seat and bowl were different sizes, and if you weren’t careful, things could spill onto your feet.

The open-air bath was a nice little city oasis, with the railway tracks visible nearby. There aren’t many trains, and the large public bath is small, but it does have the open-air bath. There are five washing areas, and it wasn’t crowded when we stayed. The sauna was around 82°C, though there was no cold bath. This is an older, traditional business hotel, and the smoking room and its towels smelled strongly of cigarettes. The AC only had hi, mid, and low settings. Breakfast was in a compact area, with a limited buffet that was bland and not much fun to eat. Still, for the price, I thought it was decent value.

I paid around 7,000 yen, but the room they gave me smelled bad. Reception moved me to a non-smoking room, and that smelled bad too. I’d missed the last train, so I stayed out of necessity. I’d avoid coming back unless I had no choice, and even then I’d try to avoid it as much as possible. The quality made me wonder if they’re just trying to take advantage of customers who oversleep.
