I was disappointed that, at roughly 1000 Australian dollars for two nights in our private room with set dinner, we still had to pay extra for everything else. The staff were somewhat friendly, though they seemed more welcoming to Japanese guests 🤐. Not much English is spoken, and there aren't many tourist attractions right around the hotel, so I'd recommend renting a car. If you have tattoos, don't expect to be allowed into the public bath. The hotel itself is beautiful, with luxurious private rooms, an onsen bath, lovely food, and gardens that might need a gardener. I'd pay extra for a private room.

The onsen has indoor and outdoor baths, separated for men and women, with water at different temperatures. I can't handle very hot water, but one of the options worked for me. The baths aren't very big, so I imagine they'd feel crowded when the hotel is full. We went on a weeknight and had the onsen to ourselves. The hotel feels warm and cozy, and the service was great. The building and facilities look old but are very, very clean, and the meals show the care put into every detail. The nostalgic Japanese tatami rooms and the whole place are beautiful. I'd recommend staying here, and getting both dinner and breakfast.

The hot spring was nice, and the service was friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Two things I'd change: serve breakfast until 10:00 AM, and provide Internet / Wifi in the rooms instead of only in the lobby. Great place to stay.

It has tatami-style rooms, with a nice onsen both indoors and outside. The people here are very kind. A typical Japanese ryoukan in Tamana city.
