Ueki Onsen Takanoya

The food was outstanding, and you could tell the chefs took care choosing ingredients and preparing each dish. Guests seemed happy and smiling, and our eight-year-old son loved the Gundam toy the head chef/owner gave him. The hotel has a welcoming atmosphere and great value for the price. It seems geared toward local families, but they were very kind to us as tourists. We had a wonderful time and would definitely consider coming back!

We stopped by this small public onsen in mid-March while cycling with my wife. The facilities were nice and the place felt cozy. A gentleman who may have been the manager or owner was extremely pleasant to talk with when we mentioned the website wasn't working. We'll come back from Shimabara!

The food was delicious, and you could feel the care that went into making it. The staff were all friendly and kind, and there were plenty of toys to keep the kids entertained, which saved us from the dreaded "I'm bored." We used the hot spring three times, and its water was surprisingly silky, probably the smoothest I've experienced. Our skin felt smooth afterward. We were a family of four and booked at short notice the day before, but they welcomed us warmly. The inn is small and peaceful, with a room that had a nice character and enough space for all four of us. There are four private family baths, available whenever one is vacant. We'd love to stay here again 😆

I booked after hearing good things about the hot springs and food, and both lived up to my expectations. I had a rental car on the way to Mount Aso, so access wasn't much of a concern. The staff were friendly and made the stay comfortable. If you're more after a chance to relax than sightseeing, as I was, this would be a nice place for the last night of a trip.
