The bathroom was clean, cool, and quiet, just like the room. But the hostel itself was the real fun: it felt like walking into another time, with toys, games, and memories of childhood everywhere. The vintage items were arranged so nicely, and getting to switch on the 35 year old Super Nintendo, or one of the other old consoles, was even better. We had a great time trying some of the earliest videogames, especially Mario. Easily one of the coolest hostels I’ve stayed in.

We had a lovely stay in this fun place, which is packed with vintage games and statues. The owner was kind, too. When all the trains were cancelled, he let us rest at the hostel. We also tried the geta there, which was fun.

Koshi was a great host. We didn’t realize check-in started at 3pm, but he stopped what he was doing and greeted us early. That really lifted our spirits after hiking through Kumano Kodo. The place is a Japanese pop-culture heaven, with loads of great mangas, games, consoles, and more. The location was perfect, close to the water and not too far from the station. We could use the washing machine and kitchen for free. 5/5, we’d stay again. Thanks, Koshi!

This is an economical hostel or guesthouse in an old traditional Japanese house, right in the centre of town. There are local shops nearby, parking at the back, and the train station is about a 15-minute walk away. For longer stays, the price is easy on the budget. It’s close to food markets and the main shopping streets, too. The rooms are traditional, with tatami mats, wooden sliding doors, and futons. Some of the rooms shown in the photos are guest rooms. There’s a shared hand- or face-washing area on the floor and a separate toilet. You need to use the nearby neighborhood community bath, or Sento. It covers the main necessities, but don’t expect luxury or lots of conveniences. Check the other comments and booking details.

The owner was very friendly and accommodating. This is an economical guesthouse in an old traditional Japanese house, so as an antique it lacks some conveniences. Check the booking information. WiFi and other basics are free.
