EN RESORT Kumejima EEF Beach Hotel

The rooms, amenities, and service were excellent, and the hotel has dedicated buses from the airport. It was a great stay, with very few places this close to such beautiful scenery.

The breakfast was delicious and the beach was excellent. Our room was on the second floor above the terrace roof, which blocked a lot of the ocean view. We were disappointed to find the pools already closed when we visited in October, even though it was still 30 degrees and the hotel hadn't told us when we booked. They wouldn't let anyone check in before 15:00 despite having plenty of empty rooms. At 15:00 a long queue formed and everyone had to wait. A little flexibility could have avoided that.

I felt trapped here instead of having a nice holiday, and I would never return. There are no taxis after 7pm, so without a car you can't just go elsewhere for dinner. The hotel's restaurant is closed at lunch, leaving you to sort out food yourself on an isolated island. They also charge for bicycle rentals, unlike other hotels where they're generally free. The room felt moldy and humid, a problem if you have allergies. The furniture and beds were very old, and I could feel the metal springs. The walls were dirty, and even though I booked a renovated room, it looked like almost nothing had been changed. There was no remote for the AC, so reception controlled the temperature. The ocean is in front, but the view isn't nice with an abandoned football camp to the right. The main pool was dirty and out of order, and the Onsen was tiny, like a bathtub, with no towel service, so you have to bring your own. Reception staff were very gentle, but the hotel looked quite different from the booking apps. A hostel for backpackers would have felt better.

The breakfast buffet was amazing, and there were pools, hot tubs, and a great onsen. They also give you free ice cream or beer if you skip daily room service. Such a lovely resort!
