The room was clean and quite nice for the price, and I had no complaints about it. Breakfast had more choices than I expected, and everyone enjoyed it. I only wish they’d replace the old-fashioned kettle someday. Parking was free at the time, which helped a lot. The front desk seemed to be handled by the proprietress and her son; they were clearly working hard to manage check-ins. It’s walkable from Kure Station, though the hotel is one block off.
For a two-meal plan, the price was reasonable, and the food itself was fine. Breakfast was uncomfortable, though. I was told to take some side dishes from the refrigerator, so I picked some from the one in front of my seat and sat down. Then a male employee came over, told me not to take anything from there, and made me put it back. There was no sign or explanation, but I was treated as if I’d done something wrong.
Breakfast was tasty, and the staff explained things clearly and were very helpful. They offer large, regular, and small rice portions despite the high rice prices these days. I chose large, which seemed like about two bowls. We were happy with the price for two nights, especially with breakfast included, and found it affordable and relaxing despite the mixed reviews. Our corner twin room had one single bed and one semi-double. It was spacious and a little dated, but comfortable. The train noise from the other side of the tracks was quite noticeable, though it didn’t bother me. The unit bathroom was average. I found it worked best to run plenty of hot water first, then add cold to settle the temperature. Small adjustments sometimes made it fluctuate. Once you get used to it, it’s fine. Body soap, shampoo, and conditioner came in individual containers. There’s covered parking in front of the lobby, perhaps space for five cars. Across a narrow, nearly traffic-free road are several monthly rental spaces, which I’d recommend in good weather. My car was about 2.2m tall, so parking felt straightforward.
The garage can fit tall cars, and the hotel is very cheap. You can hear trains on the nearby elevated track, but otherwise I had no particular issues. Games are available for a fee, with Famicom controllers provided. I’m still wondering what they do there. The room was designated for smoking, though it didn’t smell. Staff take turns using the shared family bath, and towels are in the changing room. That arrangement may be inconvenient for young women. Breakfast was tasty, with simple side dishes and strongly seasoned fish. Rice refills are limited to one bowl per person.
I was there on a business trip, and the price includes a good breakfast. For what they charge and the service you get, I’d give it five stars. When I spoke with the landlady at check-in, I got the feeling she keeps running the place because she loves it, which left me with a warm feeling. It makes me wonder how much profit they can be making these days. This hotel won’t suit everyone. If the building or rooms bother you, I think you should pay more and stay somewhere nicer.
