RED SUBMARINE - Hostel

The rooms are small, but that was fine for me, and the place was very clean. I was the only guest during my stay, so I can't say whether you can hear other people. I'd happily come back.

I won't stay here again. For me, it's a slightly better internet cafe, and there wasn't much to like as a place to stay. The shared kitchen and other facilities are nice, but there's no TV in the rooms, the toilets and showers are shared, and the thin walls let you hear everything next door. If you're fine with that kind of atmosphere, maybe it works for you. I was here on a business trip and, from the Google Maps pictures, mistakenly thought I'd be staying in an actual submarine. I had been looking forward to the large public bath on the third floor, but it was closed on the third Wednesday of the month, so I had to use a tiny shower booth. If an internet cafe is good enough for you, this place should be too.

I visited on December 25th. The guesthouse is in the Aka Building, and the dorm rooms have a changing area. You lay out your own sheets, and there is no curfew, so you can enjoy Kure's nightlife. There's a laundry area, but the dryer is broken. Guests can use the Aka Building Onsen on the floor below for free.

It's inexpensive, about 5,000 yen for a room only, and the concept will suit people who like something different from a regular hotel. The same company seems to run a manga cafe and public bath in the building too. I forgot to check whether the bath was free or cheap for guests, and ended up bathing before I checked in, lol. My private captain's cabin was tiny, with bare concrete and just a bed. You can hear practically everything from the next room, so I wouldn't recommend it for couples. I heard a lot. There are also sounds meant to recreate being inside a submarine. At first I didn't know what they were, and it bothered me, lol.
