Hotel Hibisicus

The owners, food, location, beach, night sky, and craic were all great. In just one night I made ten new friends, saw a proposal and was later invited to a wedding in Nagoya. We watched shooting stars while listening to Begin, ate fantastic Japanese curry cooked by Te-chan, drank plenty of Aomori shochu and chuhai, and I slept like a log. If you haven't stayed at Hibuscus, you haven't been to Kurimajima. I'll be back in September 2016.

The host was so friendly, and the place had a quiet atmosphere, quite far from the city. Scuba gear was available to rent, and the host was happy to give us rides to the airport and other places.

Tetchan has a wonderful personality, and all the guests feel like one big family, lol. You can go snorkeling and try lots of other things. I only stayed one day, unfortunately, but I plan to return next year for about a week and take the diving license course Tetchan told me about. There are lots of coconut crabs to see if you go to the beach at night.

There isn't dinner on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. The accommodation contract says the air conditioning or heating runs until 7 AM, but it shuts off after 2 AM. It happens every time I stay, not just once, and even the more expensive rooms are affected. I asked someone else who was awake then, and they said it was for the same reason. Private rooms and dorms both lose air conditioning at the same time. I couldn't sleep at all after it went off, so I drove to a manga cafe and slept there. They clean with a Roomba, but the futons were full of mites and I got bitten a lot. Maybe I was just unlucky since I stayed for several nights. For anyone staying here, there are many guests with bad manners who spend more than two hours at Hanafu with just one drink, or make enough noise to disturb the neighbors. I used to have a very positive impression of this inn, but it's frustrating when people linger so long over a 400 yen Miyako soba or a single beer. I can't even go shopping, and I'm exhausted physically and mentally. The inn's shared dining area has no air conditioning, but people seem to treat Hanafu like some kind of children's center. Do they think 500 yen per person for four people is enough to cover labor and air conditioning costs? This is all because of the inn's stingy system. They should at least install air conditioning. People casually say they'll go to Hanafu when there's no food provided, but it's really annoying. It's not an air-conditioned children's center. I understand wanting to come to Miyako Island even without money, but I wish immigrants and inconsiderate tourists wouldn't cause trouble for the islanders.
