Esquire City Hotel

This is a small, outdated business hotel. The room smelled a little, but it had enough basics, including a kettle, hair dryer, cups and chopsticks.

It’s a bit of a walk from the station, so getting there on foot can be challenging. The location is just okay, though it’s on a main road and a convenience store is a short walk away. The rooms are very dark, with only minimal lighting, and there are cobwebs and a strong smell. The walls are extremely thin, so you hear every little noise. If your neighbors watch TV late into the night, it’s impossible to sleep. Amenities are sparse: one toothbrush and one 12ml sachet each of shampoo and body soap. There isn’t even hand soap. I paid by card, but afterward the person just put the card on the table. It doesn’t really matter, but I wonder if that’s considered good manners.

For under 5000 yen, a single room without meals is very reasonable. The building is older, but it’s very clean and perfectly fine for the price. A ramen shop had just opened on the first floor, but I couldn’t try it because of the checkout time.

I stayed here on a business trip to Kurobe. It’s an old business hotel without a large public bath, but that didn’t bother me since I only needed somewhere to sleep between work shifts. I think it’s worth the price, and there’s flat parking in front.
