Getting here is easy by public transport or car, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, though a little small and dark. The food was good and decent, and service was good. The hot spring was nice and seemed effective since I slept well after bathing, but it was a bit too small and had no outdoor bath.

The package for our one-night stay included a Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. I really enjoyed the onsen, and it was a very pleasant experience overall. The green tea in the room was amazing. The hotel also runs a shuttle bus to the JR bus station.

It costs a lot, but I felt it was worth every penny. We'd do it again without a second thought. An amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience 🙏

The staff were warm and patient with my limited Japanese, and I felt well looked after. Dinner was a lovely kaiseki meal, like edible art. There were dishes I couldn't pronounce, but every bite was incredible. The onsen, fed by the famous Yubatake, was next level. Soaking in the hot spring water under the stars was one of the most peaceful moments of my life. From the wooden architecture and tatami rooms to the calming smell of hinoki (Japanese cypress), Naraya Ryokan felt like pure magic. As an American looking for an authentic Japan experience, it was like stepping into a dream. It's a traditional, soulful place and completely unforgettable, more than just a hotel. If you're in Japan, make the trip to Kusatsu. You'll thank yourself.
