Hotel Marsh Land

There was a microwave on each floor by the elevators. Our room in the main building was a smoking room, but it didn't smell too much like cigarettes. The large public bath was nearly empty and felt great. For what you get at this price, it may be the cheapest option in Kushiro. But the person in the next room snored so loudly I had trouble falling asleep. Footsteps and voices carried through the building, and the futon was dusty. My rhinitis got worse. There are good things and bad things here.

The hotel itself was fine, but the other guests made for an awful stay. I had a cheap room in the annex, which seems to be used as a long-term base for blue-collar business travelers and deep-sea fishing groups. It was incredibly noisy: people left doors open and went between each other's rooms, made long, loud phone calls, and got drunk and rowdy. Seriously, it felt like Nishinari in Osaka. The cheap annex rooms aren't listed on booking sites like Booking.com. I suspect that's because most of the guests are like this and the hotel would get bad reviews. I really don't recommend the annex.

I stayed in the main building. It's a reasonably priced hotel with breakfast included, and I wondered if it was really worth the cost. In some ways, it's a hotel from the good old days. They have smoking rooms, which may bother non-smokers. I'm a smoker, so it doesn't bother me. The bath, changing room, and washing area were a little cold, but not too bad. It's a bit far from the city center, though restaurants and convenience stores are within walking distance, so the location works for the price. I can't speak to the annex.

The breakfast was much better than I'd expected, and the large public bath had a great view. There were lots of thoughtful touches, the heating was plenty warm, and there was a parking lot. The building and facilities are a little old, but that's understandable given the hotel's history. It seems to be a Hokkaido hotel associated with Takahashi Hideki and Takahashi Maasa. I don't know them personally, but considering the break-even point based on guest turnover in Kushiro City, I found the hotel more than satisfactory. Thank you. I'd like to stay here again if I get the chance.
