The two private onsens, one indoors and one outdoors, made the room especially memorable. Even the floors and baths felt cozy, heated naturally by the hot spring under the property. Outside, snow covered the courtyard so we couldn’t walk through it, but looking out at the quiet winter scene was lovely. My boyfriend and I stayed at Zaborin for two nights, and every part of the visit felt thoughtful. Lei showed us around the property and our room (I hope I’ve got her name right), and she was genuinely kind and attentive. The whole team made us feel cared for from the moment we arrived. Dinner was beautifully prepared kaiseki, the sort of meal you’d expect from a two Michelin star restaurant. We chose the wine pairing on the first night and enjoyed it a little too much. It was a great match for the food. The calm setting, service, and meals made the stay unforgettable. Zaborin feels special, and we’d love to come back.

We loved the staff and the hotel, and I’d gladly return. The food was excellent, though I expected something more lavish, with bigger and more plentiful servings, based on other traditional Japanese hotels we’ve stayed at. For the price, it just wasn’t as grand as I’d pictured. We booked through MMS at 240k points a night, then the rate dropped to 91k after we’d booked. I didn’t check before canceling and rebooking, so I missed out on a few hundred thousand points. It’s worth keeping an eye on the rate in case it falls and you can rebook. At 91k points per night, I wouldn’t have gone to the Park Hyatt.

The meals alone are worth making the trip for: fresh, seasonal Japanese food, served with care. The staff were friendly and attentive, too. I can’t picture anyone leaving a bad review. The rooms are stunning, and the same goes for every part of the hotel. Both the indoor and outdoor private onsens were life changing. I’m afraid I may never have another stay this perfect.

The beds were the best we’ve slept in while traveling. ZABORIN really does what a ryokan should, giving you space to rest your body, mind, and soul. We felt the stress of everyday life fade as soon as we arrived. The service was discreet and immaculate, with a close connection to nature, Michelin starred food, and the warm welcome you hope for at a ryokan. If you get the chance to treat yourself to a luxury getaway, stay at Zaborin. Its name reflects a Zen idea of letting go of worldly desires and simply being still. This is an experience I’d say is worth having once in your life. Thank you to Zaborin and all the lovely staff. We’ll be back! ❤️

The in room onsens were a real highlight, and the food was delicious. It’s a peaceful place to relax, with fantastic amenities and impeccable service. Hanazono is only a five minute drive away, and there’s a locker room for skiing. The setting is quiet and isolated, so having a car is recommended for getting around. That’s the tradeoff for the calm location.
