Daitokuji Sushicho

My friend was lucky to bring me to this lovely little place. The welcome was warm, and the sushi chef prepared everything right there. The sushi was absolutely delicious, and his wife was such a gracious host who made us feel at home.

We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful part of Kyoto. The Sasaki couple were kind and hospitable hosts. I'd highly recommend this place if you're looking to stay or eat in the north of the city.

We've come back for a second visit and still love this place. We've only eaten here, not stayed overnight, but the food is outstanding and the presentation is breathtaking. The husband and wife working behind the counter are such a fun, friendly pair. The chef has worked abroad and speaks some English. Their food and warm personalities bring former customers back from other towns where they used to run the same shop, even over long distances. They enjoy chatting and joking with customers. Order a beer or sake when you sit down and join in however you can, even if it's just smiles and photos to share your story. You'll find yourself dreaming of coming back.
