Fuji Hotel Kyoto Gojo

We felt unsafe and deeply uncomfortable here, and I would not recommend anyone stay. The building didn’t seem to have anyone managing the entrance around the clock, so anyone could walk in and reach all floors. When we checked out, there was nobody there, just a box for the keys. Clean linens, towels, and pillow covers were left stacked outside, with no idea how long they’d been there. The room was in terrible condition. It smelled awful, the carpet had a huge stain plus smaller marks on the floor, there was no hand soap, the bed frame was peeling, wallpaper was coming off, and the linens had a brown stain. We told staff right away, but they did nothing except offer us new sheets to change ourselves. For what we paid, that was unacceptable. Management wasn’t helpful, and the manager became rude. We ended up apologizing just to avoid a confrontation. With every hotel in the city booked, we couldn’t find anywhere else and had no choice but to stay. They didn’t fix anything or offer compensation. After the first night, we noticed dusty windows, a stain on the mattress itself, and a shower drain clogged with hair and grime that kept the water from draining. I’m at a loss for words about the hotel and its standards of hospitality.

The staff were nice, and the fifth-floor view was great. It’s close to Kyoto station and the shopping districts. The bathroom was unpleasant, with what looked like grime or mould by the shower, and the toilet didn’t have a heated seat or bidet.

I had a lovely four-night stay in a quiet, convenient spot within walking distance of Kyoto Station and the subway. The room was clean and spacious for the price. My only gripe was the air conditioning: it takes some fiddling to get the humidity and temperature right, or the room gets humid pretty quickly.

The location made the stay enjoyable. The hotel is easy to find, a train station that connects to Kyoto station is within walking distance, and there are several very good little restaurants nearby. The staff were kind and did their best to help, patiently communicating across the language barrier. They helped us find services we needed and offered to arrange a spa reservation. The rooms are on the small side, which might bother some people, but for what we paid it worked out well.
