Kyoto Plaza Hotel Kyoto Station South

I can’t recommend this hotel to non-Japanese speakers based on what I saw. A foreign guest seemed not to speak Japanese, and a front desk staff member couldn’t communicate in English. The response was unhelpful and included disrespectful remarks in Japanese, apparently assuming the guest wouldn’t understand. Later, from my room, I clearly heard staff in the hallway mocking her in Japanese. It was deeply unprofessional and left a very negative impression. Kyoto welcomes visitors from all over, and hotel staff should be better prepared to help international guests respectfully and courteously. I hope the hotel improves its hospitality toward international travelers.

Late check-in is available, and the location is very central while still feeling quiet and peaceful. The staff are friendly, and amenities are available to take. Rooms are clean and have windows, though I think the design could use some changes. I’ve started to enjoy this kind of hotel in Kyoto.

I stayed here during the last days of my scholarship time in Kyoto last year. The staff were friendly, helpful, and fairly fluent in English. Service was good, and my room was quite clean, convenient, and a decent size for one person. Recommended for a budget trip.

Toji Temple and Toji Station are even closer than Kyoto Station, so I enjoyed walking to the temple and using public transportation to get around. The hotel is fairly close to Kyoto Station too, which is convenient. My room was small but plenty big for me, clean, and western style.
