For the price and location, I think it's a nice place to stay. I would come back, but I'd pay cash next time rather than use points or rewards nights, since Garner doesn't offer upgrades and the amenities are limited. As an IHG loyalist, I usually choose IHG hotels. I'd never heard of Garner, but the good reviews convinced me to book with my IHG points. The location is great, within walking distance of restaurants, convenience stores, bus stops, and subway lines. Staff were great, and the coin laundry was handy. You don't need to buy detergent, since it gets dispensed automatically when you start the washer. There's also an ice machine, coffee, and water on the first floor. The reviews were right that the rooms are small. That's fine for a solo traveler, but I think it's too tight for two people. They only have single-bed and double-twin room types, with the twin room a little bigger. Platinum members can't get a room upgrade because there are only those two types. My biggest issues were the room design and soundproofing. Noise from the street wasn't a problem, but I could hear the housekeeping crew's cart and other noise from about 8 in the morning, as well as full conversations in the hallway. The light switch and outlet are behind the headboard. There's also a mirror at eye level beside the bed, so when I woke up half-asleep in that tiny room, I saw my own face and thought it was someone else, lol. I had to change which way I slept.

We were really pleased with our stay and I can recommend this Garner Hotel. The room was much more spacious than I expected: we had a twin room with two beds, room for luggage, a desk, and a separate area with a safe and fridge. The toilet and bath are in one small unit, but it's cute and works well. Everything looked bright, clean, and new. The reception is basic and small, though the staff were friendly. The price is great value, especially for Kyoto. The location is excellent, just one stop from Kyoto station and an easy walk to Nishiki market. Breakfast next door at Komeda was basic but cheap, an extra 580 yen or around $3USD. If you book a breakfast rate, reception gives you a voucher. We were hungry, so we ordered more, and the prices were reasonable.

The only real drawback was the gap under the room door, which let hallway voices through very clearly. Otherwise, a lovely little hotel: the staff were kind and accommodating, and they put out local tea and free treats in the lobby. The laundry room came in handy too. It's in a great central spot near Kyoto's main shopping area, two metro lines, and buses to all the temples. The hotel is fairly new, so things feel updated and clean. Our room was a good size, with a generous bed and full bath.

I slept really well because the room was nicely insulated, even though I'd seen some comments about traffic noise. The hotel's location, cleanliness, and staff were all wonderful. Thanks for making such a lovely environment. I had a great stay and would definitely recommend Garner Hotel to travelers.

This is a cozy, convenient hotel and good value if you want to explore and unwind in a cafe. The lobby connects directly to a Komeda Coffee house, so I could grab a coffee and read or use my laptop without even needing a jacket. Staff were really friendly, and my room was clean and functional. There's a subway exit on the same block, about a five-minute walk away.
