Kobako guest house was a great way to begin my two-week trip to Japan. I don’t speak Japanese, but staying here helped me feel connected. Yuki-san is thoughtful and considerate, and lives next door while managing the guest house full time. If you need anything, she’ll do her best to help. I made friends with other guests and we’re still in touch now that I’ve moved on. Yuki and the others also helped me get around kyoto easily, and the house felt like home whenever I returned. It’s in a very walkable part of town, quiet and relaxing, with plenty of interesting adventures reachable on foot, on the free bikes at the guest house, or by a nearby bus. The place is clean and well cared for. We cooked dinner and ate together a few times. I can’t wait to come back to kyoto and see the friends I made here.

Yuki and Aki made the stay feel special, sharing local culture, suggesting places to visit in Kyoto, and even helping with our laundry. The thoughtful touches stood out too, from the Japanese porcelain and comfy slippers to the extra bathroom supplies. Our room was very comfortable, and the shared spaces were cleaned every day. I felt right at home at Kobako and only wished we could have stayed longer. We’ll be back!

A peaceful, friendly place in a clean old-style Japanese house. There’s lots nearby, including the mountains and hiking, the river, downtown, temples, and shrines. Great spot in Kyoto.

Our family of four is travelling around the world for 10 months, and Kobako Guest House made our top three stays anywhere. Aki-san and Yuki-san were so welcoming and helpful. Aki-san even showed us how to make Totoro bento boxes, which was a real treat. The guest house has that simple Japanese beauty, with tatami mats and futons. You can rent bikes there, and it was amazing value for money. We loved staying here and want to come back!

The rooms were spotless and tidy, with lots of lovely little details. The staff were friendly and easygoing. He baked fresh bread for breakfast and helped us with all our questions. Such a great place.
