The room was spacious, with plenty of closet space, and the bed had outlets on both sides that worked with multiple plug types. The bathroom was large and clean. It was quiet too, since the hotel is a fair way from the busy part of the city and the other guests were quiet. The distance didn’t feel unreasonable to me. There’s a tiny lunch place west down the street, Bon Bon8 Chome-73 Honmachi, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, 605-0981, Japan. I really recommend trying the curry, and the Japanese jazz they play while you sit at the counter is fabulous. I was happy with my stay overall, but I wouldn’t come back or recommend it to solo travelers. Check-in is mostly virtual, and I saw someone at the front desk only once or twice during my four nights. The property doesn’t seem to be staffed around the clock, and the front entrance isn’t keyed, which made me uneasy. I was put in the first room right off the lobby, on the ground floor. As a woman traveling alone, that combination made me nervous. Luggage storage is limited too, just a keyed rope under a table in the lobby. For couples or groups who want to stay in Kyoto’s outer neighborhoods, this seems like a perfect fit. It’s less ideal for women traveling alone.
