Kyoto Hotel SANOYA

The hotel is right across the street from Kyoto station, which made getting on and off the trains so easy. There are lots of food options around, too. Our family had plenty of room, and the staff gave amazing service, always greeting us with smiles. I’d definitely recommend this place.

We didn’t have time to enjoy the onsen, the public bathroom, sadly. The room was spacious, especially compared with our hotel in Tokyo 😁, and it had a traditional ryokan style with tatami. The staff were friendly, and it’s within walking distance of Kyoto Station.

The public baths were roomy and hot, and the hotel was clean with no trace of cigarette smoke. Our room had its own private bath too, though we didn’t use it. We liked the Japanese style, with tatami mats and futons. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and Hotel Sanoya is conveniently located just north of Kyoto Station, right outside the Porta exit.

There’s a curfew at 00:30 hours, and you only find out at check-in. If you want to enjoy the nightlife or stay out late, Sanoya just won’t work. The hotel is close to Kyoto Station, so getting around is easy. It’s not bad at all, though there are much better ryokan in the city. The place is pleasant enough, but clearly showing its age. There were scratches and stains around the room if you looked. The staff were wonderful, the basement bath was relaxing, and breakfast left us with plenty of energy for a day in Kyoto.
