Kamon Inn Toji Higashi

The hosts were wonderful, and they left a bag of KitKat with a thank-you note for us on our last day. Such a sweet, unexpected gesture! Our room was comfortable, with nice beds and a good shower. There was also a lovely little kitchenette with everything we needed to eat in. The location was handy for the shrine and EaonMall, and they even gave us tickets to the public bath.

The view of Toji Temple at night was stunning. The inn was easy to locate, and the host sent clear directions. It’s roughly three blocks from Kyoto station, walkable, and close to a bus stop. Our room had plenty of space, a TV, mini fridge, and electric kettle. I liked that the sink, shower, and toilet were in separate areas. There’s laundry and a shared dining room too. I’d happily stay here again. 😊

I was surprised by how roomy the rooms were, and everything worked well. The desk and chair were good for working, and the internet handled Zoom meetings. It takes about 10 minutes to walk here from Kyoto station. A few restaurants are 3-5 minutes away, a mall is about 7 minutes off, and some nice temples are only a short walk. The shared area has books, a dining table, cooking supplies, plus a washer and dryer. The staff member I spoke to was friendly and shared some local tips. Would recommend.

The location was the one good thing, about a 15-minute walk from Kyoto central station. We paid 43,000 yen for two nights, plus city tax, and got just one single bed. It was so uncomfortable that we ended up on a floor mattress, and our backs hurt every morning. The room is tiny, with hardly any space to move, and the walls are thin enough that you hear everything, even the next-door neighbors’ bowel movements. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I was very disappointed with Kamon Inn and surprised by the good reviews.
