The traditional breakfast was delicious, and the onsen was beautiful. I had to get past some shyness at first, but using it was completely worth it. The staff were welcoming and helpful. There wasn't much English spoken, but the printed instructions were excellent. We'd booked specifically for the ryokan and it didn't disappoint. The room was huge, the largest we'd had in Japan, and the view over the Kamo River and stepping stones was fantastic. It felt like a genuine Japanese experience, and we loved our stay. The subway is about a 7 to 10 minute walk away, and the Kyoto National Gardens are around five minutes on foot. There are also really great little restaurants all around. I'd absolutely stay here again.

Very authentic place. The rooms have a toilet and sink only. You have to go downstairs to use the communal bath for a shower.

We found the Japanese style room very comfortable, and the buffet breakfast was delicious. It was our first stay at a ryokan, and a great experience. The onsen was the main reason we chose KKR. It was clean, had all the necessary amenities, and had instructions in English, which helped a lot.
