Machiya Hotel YANAGI

I've stayed in the Akatsuki room twice, for three days and two nights at the end of the year. It's a relaxing, pleasant inn, and I'd love for a few things to be improved. The first-floor living room stayed around 16°C even with the heater running all day, because the warm air collects upstairs and there's no circulator. The hair dryer is heavy and weak, so drying hair takes too long. I also struggled to open the wine I bought because there wasn't a wine opener, even though cutlery was provided. We love Akatsuki and have visited twice at year-end. A circulator, a better dryer, and a wine opener would make the stay even better.

We were able to stay with our pet, which made me especially happy. The whole building is rented out, so it feels private, and the interior is stylish with an open ceiling. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed, including very strong water pressure. There are two beds downstairs, plus three beds and two futons in the Japanese-style room upstairs. It was a little far from the city center, but I checked in late by myself without any trouble. The only air conditioner serves the open-ceiling space, so warm air rises upstairs and the first floor gets cold. There isn't parking, though nearby lots charge around 1,000 yen for 24 hours. The Lawson nearby seems to stay open until 11 pm. I wish I could have stayed longer!

We'd definitely like to come back. The hospitality was wonderful, and the tea and sweets were delicious. The futons were fluffy, and the small courtyard and bath inside the house were very comfortable. There are three bedrooms, which worked well for a family trip. The home was clean and affordable, and they even allow dogs. It was such a lovely Kyoto house, and we didn't find anything bad about it. Absolutely wonderful!

I enjoyed my stay and would come back if I get the chance. There’s a public bath and a pizza place nearby with takeout, which made things nice. The space was cozy and comfortable, though cooking at home isn't ideal because the kitchen is small and there's no toaster. The Keifuku Line tracks are close, and train noise late at night or early in the morning can wake you.
