My wife and I chose this place on both of our Kyoto trips, a year apart, and loved it each time. It’s a small hotel with three guest rooms, run by one gentleman, who goes far beyond what I’d expect from a host. He even cleaned our luggage and shoes when we returned to the room, and made an amazing breakfast. For all the care he put in, I never felt pressured by his hospitality the way I have at other places in Japan. The bathtub also fills itself with the press of one button. This was probably the most underrated place of our whole trip.

The location made it easy to get around, with buses and the metro just a short walk away. The rooms and house are beautiful, and the owner was incredibly kind. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great stay.

The room was a bit small but tidy. Breakfast looked nicely presented, though the food was just okay, and the Japanese pickles and rice could be better. The room rate felt overpriced.

We had two comfortable nights in this lovely guest house by the Kamogawa river, not far from Gion attractions. Our big, clean room had a private wooden tub spa room, which we especially loved. Mr.Nagata was very polite and attentive, and Miyagawa Yoshii showed every guest wonderful Japanese hospitality. There were lots of thoughtful touches, including freshly made Oolong tea in the fridge. We didn’t eat breakfast there, but what I saw other guests having looked amazing.
