The host was warm and helpful, with tips on transport and places to eat nearby. They’ve got bus stop and arrival details listed, plus free Wifi and a TV that streams Netflix. Shops are close too, including a supermarket, and getting to bus stops is easy. If you want a traditional Japanese homestay in Kyoto, this is a place to consider. The amenities were all clean and tidy. The only downside for me was that the hallway could feel chilly in winter. I really enjoyed my stay!

The location is convenient and the stay was otherwise average, but I wouldn't recommend coming in winter. There was no heating in the room. One toilet was outside, and the indoor bathroom was unheated, so I was freezing after my shower. The comforter was very thin too. I caught a cold, and it spoiled my whole trip. Heating really matters, and I hope the owner understands that.

The manager was friendly and helpful, and suggested some good local shops. I tried the rich soy milk across the street, then headed to the breakfast hall. I still haven't bought any fern cakes. I had a great machiya stay on the first floor. The room was clean, and the shower room in the hallway was an unusual feature. Even with winter nights below 10 degrees Celsius, I felt comfortable after showering.

There’s a supermarket nearby with lots of things to choose from, which made shopping easy. The place was quiet and clean, and the staff were lovely. They gave me plenty of information about nearby sights and how to get around, and answered all my questions.
