The onsen was a lovely, relaxing bonus, and the service was both polite and efficient. In a prime Arashiyama location, steps from the Luxury Collection hotel, this traditional ryokan is a reliable four-star option if you like classic Japanese style more than ultra-modern luxury. The property feels a little dated, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the facilities are fully equipped.

We enjoyed the public baths after a day out, a great way to unwind. The hotel is quiet and a little out of the way, but still within walking distance of places you’ll want to visit. The rooms are decent, and I’d recommend it for a peaceful stay.

I liked the traditional ryokan and its spot in a great part of Kyoto, but the checkout policy left a bad impression. Guests have to leave by 10AM, and staying longer costs 2,200 yen per hour, more than twice the industry rate of 1,000 yen. I know Kyoto gets a lot of tourists, but this feels hostile to guests. There are other ways to make money than pushing people out early. The policy comes off as anti-human and leaves you with bad energy.

The pillows were hard and uncomfortable. At breakfast, staff started clearing food before the serving time was over, and the porridge bowls were already gone.

The guests were courteous, and the place was quiet, old but clean, and not expensive. I was very happy with the amenities, food, half-board arrangement, and service. I’d highly recommend it.
