The room and bathroom were both surprisingly spacious, which was a nice plus in Kyoto. But on the morning we were leaving, there was no hot water. Staff seemed to make a genuine effort to fix the technical problem, but we were on a tight schedule and couldn’t wait around. The rest of the stay at UU Inn Kyoto was okay, though that utility failure was a major inconvenience and affected the value. Average, at best.

The Airbnb photos were quite misleading. The streets shown in the listing weren’t from the area, which was disappointing. Maybe I should have researched more, but the images felt pretty click-baity. I wouldn’t book a room here for more than two people. There isn’t enough room for bags unless you don’t mind walking over everyone’s stuff. Hot water is on a 30-minute timer, which seems stingy for four people. The laundry detergent was so watered down I’m not sure there was any detergent left, and the washing machine didn’t seem to have a dry cycle. Even after an hour and a half in the subpar dryer, my clothes were still soaking wet. I’d use a local laundromat instead of wasting time or money on the provided machines.

It’s handy for getting around Kyoto, with a train station nearby that connects to places across the city, plus shops close at hand. But the room we had was so cramped that there wasn’t enough space to walk beside the bed and reach the second one. The layout seems focused on fitting in as many guests as possible, with little thought for comfort. There’s a washer and dryer, though they’re on the top floor beside a smoking area. The hotel laundry is left out in the open right next to it, which felt pretty gross. Fine for a night if you’re short on options, but I wouldn’t choose it for a longer stay.

The beds are large and comfortable, and I especially liked the bathroom. It was clean and spacious, with both a shower and a bathtub. Rooms are a little tight when you have big suitcases, though there’s enough room to relax. A Familymart is just steps away for everyday essentials. The hotel entrance uses a code, and you get into your room with a key card. The Keytatsu Line is about a six-minute walk away. One downside: the somewhat dirty washer and dryer are only on the fourth floor, up the stairs. The smoking area right beside them is basically an ashtray by an open window. Still, a good place to stay in Kyoto.

Great room and service, with two subway stations nearby and marts close for snacks or a light bite. Just know there’s no elevator, and everyone shares a single washer-dryer on the third floor, so plan accordingly before booking.
