Kyoto White Hotel

Getting to Kyoto Station is easy, just a three-minute walk. The place is pretty old, though it seemed they’d cleaned it up as well as they could. For what you pay, it’s fair, but don’t expect great service.

It’s a comfortable hotel in a handy spot near the station, though actually getting to the station is surprisingly difficult. The bathroom was much too small.

The dormitory felt comfortable, apart from the woman at the front desk, who was quite strict. I left almost a year ago now, and I’m still grateful for the help I received while I was there. I was under your care from late March through the end of May last year for emergency protection. I’d spent a long time going between the streets and correctional facilities. Because I have hearing loss, I was reluctant to seek advice at the ward office or elsewhere. After I was arrested on March 1 and indicted, I learned a lot from the caseworker and others during questioning by the prosecutor. Following an extra 20 days in detention, I wasn’t indicted. I’m now receiving welfare and going to the hospital, and all my operations were covered without any out-of-pocket costs. I heard from someone in settlement support that emergency protection services stopped at the start of this fiscal year. Thank you so much for everything you did for me then.

It still feels like the Kyoto Station area from not that long ago, and that local character is what makes this place meaningful to me. The hotel has been developed a lot, so I wouldn’t call it run-down, but there’s still something real among all the neat, tidy parts. How much you enjoy it, and how good the value seems, probably depends on whether you just need somewhere to stay or also care about the neighborhood’s character. This is just my own nostalgic take.
