We hadn’t booked dinner, and were told they could prepare something quickly, but that it would “only” be meat and potato stew. It turned out to be the best stew I’ve ever had. We also got the full kaiseki experience, with several courses of beautifully presented small plates and spectacular service. The staff were so hospitable and kind. This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and it was shockingly cheap for such a unique, refined experience. The place has a real historic feel, with original wood over 100 years old and antiques around. The mountain and nature views from the windows are spectacular. The onsen is small, but lovely.

The futon felt like sleeping on rice crackers, and it was so cold I couldn’t sleep. The dinner meat was tough and impossible to eat, and breakfast was plain and awful 😞⤵⤵. I never want to go back.
