Rinn Kitagomon East

The room was spacious, and the beds were very comfortable. Rinn Kitagomon is in a quieter part of Kyoto, yet only a short walk from a main street and within walking distance of other areas. The staff were kind and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

After a day out exploring Kyoto, this was a lovely place to unwind. Rinn Kitagomon feels peaceful, with clean, cozy rooms that blend modern comfort and traditional Kyoto touches, including tatami seating and simple decor. The staff were kind and made check-in easy. It's quiet but close to transport and major attractions. Comfortable, elegant, and full of warm Kyoto hospitality.

The room smelled of mildew, and running the humidifier didn't make it go away. The toilet smelled even worse, with no window and poor ventilation. The air conditioner was full of dust and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. The carpets and floor cushions were heavily stained too. They don't provide the disposable slippers shown in the photos, which I found misleading. I would've brought my own if I'd known, since sharing the same pair feels dirty, and I don't trust the sign saying they're sanitized. Check-in is at 4pm, with no early check-in allowed, the latest I've come across in many countries. Check-out is at 10am. There's no daily housekeeping unless you pay 3000 Yen, which is ridiculous at this price for a 4-star hotel. You also have to request cleaning by 8pm the night before. They give you a physical key instead of a keycard. Don't lose it or you'll have to pay 10,000 yen. The door doesn't lock automatically either, so remember to lock it each time. I wouldn't recommend staying here at this price.

It's a peaceful area, about a 10-minute walk from the busy part of Kyoto you'd want to be in. The room was spacious and very nice, the service was great, and the atmosphere relaxed.
