Stay SAKURA Kyoto Kiyomizu Ougi

The cleanliness was below standard, with stained towels and toothpaste marks on the bathroom wall. There were mosquitoes throughout the hotel, and I got bitten during the night. They also don't provide daily cleaning, which wasn't mentioned on the booking site. When I tried to cancel the rest of my reservation, the hotel refused and only offered paid cleaning and a bottle of mosquito repellent. I was extremely disappointed and lost money because I had to give up the remaining stay and move elsewhere.

The staff were very helpful with our early check-in and late check-out, and showed us how to get around. The area was quiet, within walking distance of public transport and a convenience store. Our room was spacious and larger than expected, with what looked like two queen beds pushed together. It was very clean, and they supplied toiletries including razors, toothbrushes, and PJs. The microwave was stuck inside the kitchenette millwork and wasn't connected, so we couldn't use it, though we didn't ask staff for help. The TV had local channels only and no apps. We'd stay again.

Management was generally unhelpful when we raised an issue with the kitchen, and seemed to avoid communicating. The kitchen was so poor that I wouldn't book expecting to do anything useful with it. The room photos, especially those showing the kitchen, felt misleading, possibly intentionally so. The place comes across as a hotel with reduced staffing, not the apartment-like property it seems to suggest. What was called a one-bedroom was really two connected hotel rooms, and the room itself was average.

Getting to trains or metros took a bit of walking, though it was manageable. We stayed for a week and had plenty of room, and the bathroom was clean with a bathtub. The beds, duvets, and pillows were all big and really comfortable. Wi-Fi was the standout, with a great connection both in the rooms and in the lobby. My friend and I had an amazing stay.
