The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu

The room was comfortable and well maintained, if nothing extraordinary. The bathtub was especially relaxing, and it was a pleasant surprise that everything in the minibar was included in the rate. We had access to the Executive Lounge before check-in and after check-out, which really lifted the stay. It looks directly toward the pagoda, and seeing snowfall in Kyoto from there made it especially memorable. The snacks changed between morning and evening. I especially liked making matcha myself, and at evening happy hour the light bites became more substantial bar-style snacks. One thing that could be better: when we left our luggage at the front desk, nobody told us about the hotel’s complimentary activities, so we missed them. Clearer communication would improve the experience.

We stayed in 2023, and my husband and I still talk about it. The staff were so kind and welcoming, and the food was outstanding. With so many amazing Kyoto spots within walking distance, the location felt perfect, right in the center of everything. It was a beautiful hotel and an unforgettable stay. We’d absolutely love to come back one day.

Everyone was kind and attentive, and the staff even found a way to fit us in for a tea ceremony at the last minute. We could get a taxi within seconds and borrow plenty of umbrellas. The grounds were beautiful and well kept, and I loved the design. The lounge was very hot, though I understand it was cold outside. Such a nice experience!

The maiko performance in the lounge on 10/28 was an amazing experience, and we felt lucky and humbled to be there. Some guests in front were extremely rude, laughing and talking the whole time, which took away a bit of the magic. Still, it’s a Kyoto experience I’ll never forget. The gardens were so peaceful and welcoming, and the rooftop bar had an incredible view. We loved the hotel’s history and story, and seeing the book about its transformation was such a cool detail. Honestly, The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu may be our favorite hotel we’ve ever stayed at, anywhere in the world. Everyone was incredibly kind and hospitable. Hikari was especially thoughtful at breakfast, making sure we had what we needed and checking that I wasn’t too cold sitting outside. When she heard it was my birthday, she had the kitchen staff prepare a special treat. It was so nice and delicious. Thanks to the Hotel Seiryu team for making our Kyoto trip so memorable. I hope we can come back someday!
