The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Sanjo

Breakfast was satisfactory, and the location is great. The staff were welcoming and handled our room change promptly when the first room had a strong odor. Unfortunately, there was an unpleasant egg smell on the 9th floor every morning. It came back after we moved rooms, though it was less intense, and still bothered me enough to give me a headache. I wondered if it was coming from the toilet. The rooms also felt quite small for the amount of luggage we had.

The reception is spacious, and I liked the statues at the entrance as we came and went. The hotel is well placed for shopping and the Gion area. The subway is close, though for the Shinkansen lines I’d say a taxi is the better option. I was on a lower floor, so my view was mostly rooftops, but it was still nice to see the settled snow.

Such a great stay. The beds were comfy, there was plenty of room, and everything was clean. Staff were lovely, and being able to store our luggage was a lifesaver. Breakfast was top notch. Honestly, I couldn’t find anything wrong with this hotel.

The billing mess was absolutely mind blowing. I was accidentally overcharged at check-in, then charged the full amount again to “fix” it. I had to wait, as they usually do, 7 to 10 business days for the first payment to be refunded. The bathroom sink stayed blocked for two days, the breakfast wasn’t good, and street-facing rooms on the lower floors aren’t quiet. I’m sure there are other hotels that deserve a four-star rating more.
